Samovar

To use your modern samovar

samovar teapot

Instructions

Before the first use, rinse out the samovar and the teapot with hot water.

  1. Entirely fill the samovar with cold water.
  2. To heat the samovar, turn the knob completely to the right until the indicator lamp is illuminated.
Wait for the water to start boiling, then turn the knob to the left until the indicator lamp goes out.
  3. To prepare the tea extract, use two teapots – a small 0.5 litre one and a larger 1.2 litre one.
Use the large teapot to enable the tea to develop while it brews.
Put about 10 teaspoons of tea in the large teapot (three times as much tea as for a normal infusion) and leave to brew for 3-5 minutes in 0.5 litres of water.
Transfer the extract into the small teapot after infusion.
  4. Then place the small teapot containing the extract of tea on the samovar. The tea will remain hot. Each guest can serve themselves with a small quantity of the tea in the teapot (1/3) and then dilute it to taste with the water from the samovar (2/3).

Black tea is particularly suitable for this preparation method.

samovar

Drinking tea from a samovar is a unique experience and the taste cannot be compared to that of tea brewed in a teapot. We hope you enjoy this new taste discovery!

Tips

You’ll avoid unsightly rings and a lot of cleaning time if you immediately dry any liquid that runs onto your samovar, using a soft cloth.

The samovar tap must be removed from time to time to prevent limescale build-up.

We recommend that you use filtered water or water from a source with a low lime content.

Caution

If the tap is stuck, do not use force to move it. Undo the nut on the cone of the tap and hit the cone gently from beneath with a rubber hammer. Special tap grease prevents limescale and sticking.

For people who suffer from a nickel allergy, we recommend yellow copper or aluminium models.
